Un résumé rapide des épisodes précédents, c’est à dire, depuis le premier trimestre 2009.
Après avoir longuement étudié quelles étaient nos possibilités quant à l’achat d’un bateau plus grand, il s’avérait que le Morgan Out Island 416 correspondait au mieux à nos souhaits. Donc, à la mi-février, nous voilà parti en Floride afin de finaliser un accord d’achat.
Les aventures lors de cet achat feront l’objet d’un autre message….sinon on n’avancera jamais!!
Une fois le bateau, Dream Ketcher, bien enregistré à nos noms, il nous a fallu entreprendre les réparations et entretiens d’usage. Un voilier qui reste sans attention pendant plusieurs saisons, ce n’est pas fait pour l’améliorer.
Nous nous imaginions – naïvement – que les travaux ne dureraient pas trop. Quelle déconvenue!! Plus de 3 mois à voir défiler les différents corps de métier, parfois les mêmes pour refaire ce que les autres n’avaient pas fait correctement. Finalement, nous avons pris la mer le 24 mai, direction Bimini aux Bahamas. Bien qu’il nous restait des réparations (une majeure en fait), nous devions quitter les États-Unis sinon le délai imparti afin de ne pas avoir à payer la taxe de vente se serait appliquée…avec une pénalité de 100%.
Donc nous avons fait un aller-retour Floride-Bimini-Floride, puis nous avons fait sortir les deux mâts pour inspection et réparation.
Ce n’est donc qu’à la fin juin que nous avons enfin pu prendre le vrai chemin de la « maison » sur l’une des charmantes îles des Abaco, Treasure Cay.
Notre joie à l’arrivée fut à l’image de notre longue absence : on était de retour « chez nous »!
Et depuis, nous aménageons notre voilier tel que nous le concevons pour notre plus grand confort et bonheur. Éric est en charge de l’électricité et Nathalie de la menuiserie, pour ne citer que deux gros postes de réparation.
Donc, à ce jour, au titre des améliorations notoires, nous avons une superbe table de cockpit. Qui se monte et se démonte en trois clicks…trop facile. Mais quel bonheur que de pouvoir maintenant manger et boire (n’oublions pas l’essentiel) à toute heure du jour et de la nuit dehors. C’est un régal dans ce paysage de rêve. Cela nous a trop manqué pendant les travaux en Floride. Nous étions cantonnés à l’intérieur ou bien nos devions manger sur nos genoux. Pas génial comme vision d’amélioration du quotidien. Mais maintenant, nous pouvons vraiment profiter du cockpit, de la vue dehors, faire nos commentaires sur les autres bateaux qui arrivent et qui ne savent pas jeter l’ancre (vive les bateaux de location où la carte de crédit est plus importante que les connaissances maritimes!!), bref revivre au grand air 365 jours par an ou presque!!
A fast summary of the preceding episodes, i.e., since the first quarter 2009.
After having lengthily studied which were our possibilities as for the purchase of a larger boat, it proved that Morgan Out Island 416 corresponded as well as possible to our wishes. Therefore, by mid-February, we flew to Florida in order to finalize the bill of sale.
The adventures at the time of this purchase will be the subject of another message….if not one will never advance!!
Once the boat, Dream Ketcher, recorded well with our names, we undertook repairs and talks of use. A sailing ship which remains without attention during several seasons, it is not made to improve it.
We thought - naively - that work would not last too much. What a disappointment!! More than 3 months to see ravelling the various professionals, sometimes the same branches to remake what the others had not made correctly. Finally, we took the sea on May 24, direction Bimini in the Bahamas. Although we still had repairs to do (a major one in fact), we had to leave the United States if not the time limit in order not to have to pay the tax of sale would have applied… with a penalty of 100%.
Thus we made a Florida-Bimini-Florida return, then we came back for the two masts for inspection and repair.
It is thus only at the end of June that we finally could take the true way of the “house” on one of the charming islands of Abaco, Treasure Cay.
Our joy upon arrival was at the image of our long absence: we were back “on our premises”!
And since, we fit out our sailing boat such as we conceive it for our greater comfort and happiness. Eric is in charge of the electricity and Nathalie of the joinery, to quote only these two large stations of repair.
Therefore, to date, under the notorious improvements, we have a superb table of cockpit. Who assembles itself and is dismounted into three clicks… too easy. But which happiness to now be able to eat and drink (let us not forget essence) at any hour of the day and the night outside. It is a treat in this landscape of dream. We missed this too much during the work done in Florida. We were confined inside or we were to eat on our knees. Not a brilliant vision of improvement of our daily life. But now, we can really benefit from the cockpit, the sight outside, make our comments on the other boats which arrive and which cannot drop anchor (like on the hiring boats where the credit card is more important than maritime knowledge!!), in short to live again with the large air, 365 days per annum or almost!!
